Michigan Healthcare Providers Upgrade to State-of-the-Art Image and Information Management Technologies
Phillipsburg, NJ - September 8, 2009 -- President Obama's economic stimulus package (ARRA of 2009) has dedicated $19 billion in federal funding to promote the electronic exchange of health information and widespread adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs). In order to qualify for the incentives that become available in 2011, physician practices and hospitals must demonstrate "meaningful use" of electronic medical record technologies. The full definition of "meaningful use" may not be finalized until next spring, but Michigan healthcare providers have been laying the groundwork with advanced information technologies for medical imaging. Significant cost savings have already been realized by including electronic X-rays, MRIs, CT scans and radiology reports in patients' electronic health records. INFINITT North America, a technology leader in Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), has helped more than 16 customers and twenty+ sites in Michigan in their conversion to filmless and near-paperless operations. INFINITT's web-based technologies promote interoperability between information systems and the sharing of medical images between physicians. Improved access to clinical information and streamlining of administrative processes has a direct impact on the timeliness and quality of patient care. Sites in Michigan using INFINITT's state-of-the-art technology to manage medical images and radiology reports include: ·Michigan Institute for Neurological Disorders (MIND), based in Farmington Hills, MI, is the largest neurological facility in the mid-west. Since implementing PACS, MIND has improved efficiency and reduced report turnaround time significantly. A diagnosis that used to take two weeks can now be signed off by the radiologist and sent to the referring physician in less than 12 hours. PACS have become a critical link in their delivery of patient services. ·MRI Diagnostic Center of Michigan, with Flint and Grand Blanc locations, is a joint venture between Genesys Health System, Hurley Medical Center and McLaren Regional Medical Center. Inpatients are transported to the imaging centers for MR studies, and referring doctors can have an electronic version of the radiologist's report with images within 2 hours. ·Marlette Regional Hospital (Marlette, MI) is currently installing the INFINITT web-based RIS/PACS to improve workflow efficiencies, reduce costs and support the newly-expanded radiology and cardiopulmonary services department. They also expect to use the INFINITT PACS for cardiac studies, and will be using INFINITT's Digital Mammo PACS at the new Women's Health Center. ·Bio-Magnetic MRI/MRA Imaging Centers has four locations in Michigan (Allen Park, Madison Heights, Port Huron and Roseville), and a fifth location in Toledo Ohio. Bio-Magnetic's IT Manager, Scott Tuller, says that having advanced technologies like PACS helps them attract the best and the brightest radiologists. They currently have three radiologists on staff that specialize in orthopedic/musculoskeletal radiology and six that specialize in neuro-radiology.
·Mid- Michigan Physicians is a large, multi-specialty physician group with a main office location and several satellite offices throughout the state of Michigan. MMP's imaging center averages 130-140 exams per day in support of physician practices specializing in family medicine, internal medicine, nephrology, hematology, oncology, cardiology, pulmonary, OB/GYN, orthopedic services, urgent care, and minimally invasive surgery.
Additional facilities in Michigan using the INFINITT PACS are Advanced MRI in Southfield, Mid Michigan Diagnostics in Flint, Great Lakes MRI in Warren, Millennium Medical Group in Southfield, Oakland Medical Group and Oakland Imaging Diagnostic Center in Madison Heights, Farmbrook Radiology Associates in Southfield, and Northside Family Practice in Owosso.
