INFINITT Draws on Connectathon Experience for Another Strong Showing at Spring 2025 DICOM Connectathon, Advancing the Future of Digital Pathology Interoperability

Phillipsburg, NJ — INFINITT, a global leader in medical imaging solutions, has once again drawn on the company’s passion for interoperability and innovation, earning a top performer status at the Spring 2025 DICOM Working Group 26 (WG26) Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) Connectathon.

For over two decades, INFINITT has consistently participated in industry Connectathons, underscoring an unwavering commitment to open standards and seamless data exchange in healthcare. The company’s latest achievement at the 2025 event is not just a testament to technical excellence, but a signal that DICOM for whole slide imaging is entering mainstream adoption—transforming digital pathology from a promising idea into a practical, industry-wide standard.

DICOM: The Backbone of Medical Imaging’s Future

DICOM®—Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine—serves as the global standard for medical images and related information. By providing a common language for the exchange of clinical image data, DICOM ensures that medical images are accessible, accurate, and ready for use wherever and whenever they are needed. As digital pathology matures, DICOM’s role becomes even more critical, enabling integration between scanners, archives, AI, and image viewers across different vendors and platforms.

“INFINITT believes deeply in the power of standards like DICOM to break down silos and drive real change in patient care,” said David Smarro, CEO of INFINITT North America. “We’ve been participating with IHE and the Connectathon since 2002 because we know that interoperability isn’t optional—it’s fundamental to the future of medicine.”

INFINITT’s Connectathon Performance: Outstanding Results and Key Achievements

At this year’s Connectathon, INFINITT stood out across all tested roles:

  • As Image Manager/Archive, INFINITT successfully received images from nine different acquisition modalities— demonstrating unmatched flexibility for hospital and laboratory environments with mixed device fleets.
  • As an Evidence Creator receiver, the company handled data from six evidence creators.
  • INFINITT’s image display systems seamlessly retrieved images from five image managers and ten modalities, and accurately displayed annotations from nine distinct evidence creators—critical for multidisciplinary review, tumor boards, and diagnostic confidence.

These achievements place INFINITT firmly in the top 10% of all participants, with especially strong marks for data reception and annotation display—key areas for clinical workflow and diagnostic accuracy.

Why DICOM Matters for Digital Pathology—and for Patients

With DICOM’s growing adoption in digital pathology, the industry is on the verge of true systems interoperability. For labs, hospitals, and clinicians, this means easier integration of new technology, faster access to high-quality images, and an open ecosystem where patient data can move freely and securely between systems. For patients, it means faster diagnoses, less redundant testing, and ultimately, better outcomes.

INFINITT’s ongoing immersion in Connectathons and commitment to standards like the DPIA profile, scanner integration, and advanced query/retrieve capabilities are paving the way for this future. The results from the 2025 WG26 Connectathon show that DICOM for WSI has matured beyond a niche initiative—it’s a practical, robust standard that vendors are racing to implement, and INFINITT is a resolute advocate for real-world adoption.
